The
Central Election Commission (CEC) holds 5 opinion presentations for
Constitutional amendment referendum No.1, also "18-Year-Old Civil
Rights", and releases the list of hosts and supporting side
representatives. These 5 opinion presentations will be televised on nationwide
wireless channels and livestreamed on CEC website.
In
accordance with regulations, the Legislative Yuan handing out the
constitutional amendment represents the positive side, and the relevant
government agencies or those against the referendum with permission represent
the opposition side. The CEC explains, according to the registration results of
the supporting and opposition sides, the Legislative Yuan recommends 5
representatives (including 4 legislators from the 4 caucuses in the Legislative
Yuan and one representative from the supporting opinion office). On the other
side, with the Executive Yuan expressing its supporting to the constitutional
amendment, there were either no opposition opinions applying to establish
offices, since the 5 presentations will be no opposition side representatives.
The
CEC reiterates, the matter the Legislative Yuan handed over for referendum is
the amendment of Articles 1-1 of Additional Articles of the Constitution of the
Republic of China - Any citizen of the Republic of China who has attained the
age of 18 years shall have the right of election, recall, initiative and
referendum in accordance with law. Except as otherwise provided by this
Constitution or by law, any citizen who has attained the age of 18 years shall
have the right of being elected in accordance with law. The provisions of
Articles 130 of the Constitution shall cease to apply. The CEC calls on
all the citizens watch the presentations on TV and remember to go into the
polling stations to vote for constitutional amendment referendum, participating
the constitutional moment together.
